2008 SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
ROCKY MOUNTAIN SECTION, SEPM
The Rocky Mountain Section of SEPM announces the availability of its three annual graduate student research grants.
The Donald L. Smith Research Grant is offered as a tribute to the late Professor Donald Smith of Montana State University (see AAPG Bulletin, v. 69, p. 1830-1832). This grant offers a $1000.00 award to a Ph.D. degree candidate. The award is to be used for research that is directly applicable to better understanding the geology of the Rocky Mountain region.
The Edwin D. McKee Grant is offered as a tribute to the late Edwin McKee who worked for the U.S. Geological Survey for over 30 years (see AAPG Bulletin, v. 69, p. 491-493). This grant offers a $1000.00 award to undergraduate or Master's degree candidates. The award is to be used for thesis-related research in sedimentology and/or the application of sedimentology to a better understanding of the geology of the Rocky Mountain region.
The Fluvial Sedimentology Award, offered for the past several years in the amount of $1,000, is available to support Masters or Doctoral level student research in modern or ancient fluvial sedimentology.
One original and six (6) hard copies of the application are required, and must include:
1) A summary of the proposed research, clearly stating both the plan for and the significance of the proposed research. Text is limited to three (3) pages, excluding figures, tables, references, support letters, and applicant?s resume;
2) Two (2) letters of recommendation (original letters required in original copy only; copies will suffice for other six copies);
3) Resume of the applicant.
Please note: There is no application form; applicants will submit materials in a format and sequence of their own choosing. Applications may NOT be faxed or emailed. Support letters may be faxed but not emailed.
Deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, March 7, 2008. Membership in SEPM or RMS/SEPM is not required for application. The grants will be awarded in early May; all applicants will receive a reply.
